Ok to start, I am very familiar with parochena's works and her technique improves with each deviation I see. And speaking of technique, I want to start there since I only rated it 3 1/2 stars. The background is amazing. I love the design, just enough detail to be interesting. All the little lights in the windows are really eyecatching. Her character, of course, is adorable. The shading on him/her looks (to me, a non-painter lol) awesome. I only wish there had been more detail in the bridges and the water and maybe a bit more sharpness to the roof in the foreground. The gradation in the sky makes for a lovely dusk setting. Now as for originality, I know it was for a contest with this theme. I can't say I've never seen something similar, but I haven't seen a lot of it. The impact was enough for me to click on it in #Thumbshare, which is why i rated that so highly. The colors make it quite striking. I would have granted it that extra half star had there been the slightest bit more contrast, but that's not parochena's style .
Overall, I think she took an idea and ran (in an adorable direction) with it. I love her interpretation of the "On the Roof" theme.
